Detailed description (English): This year, Podilatiki Apo-Drasi Pierias (Cycling Escape of Pieria), in cooperation with the Municipality of Katerini, organises the celebration of the Car-Free Day, on Sunday 17 September 2017, at Eleftherias Square, under the name 'Life in the town of Katerini without a car'. For this day, special urban areas will be defined in town, where traffic will be allowed only for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Some of the activities specially organised for this day, will include: traffic education for children, painting on asphalt, kids’ crafts, games, music and kinetics, dance-sports shows.
Since its establishment, Cycling Escape of Pieria participates in EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK by visiting schools as well as the Traffic Education Park for Children to put into practice the lessons learnt, organising sustainable mobility seminars and distributing information material to the citizens of Katerini.
However, our main focus as an association, not only in the framework of EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK but also throughout the year, is cycling education. An interactive presentation of bicycle’s history and what it should be equipped with is to shown to students. In our visits, we always highlight the importance of light coloured clothing, helmet and lights as well as the significance of following the road signs and regulations.
