Detailed description (English): Cicloficinas in Aveiro happen:
- on the 2nd Saturday of every month, from 11:00 to 13:00, at the city centre, more precisely at Mercado Manuel Firmino;
- on the last Thursday of every month (except vacation periods), from 16:00 to 18:00, at the University of Aveiro.
More info (in Portuguese) can be found at: http://ciclaveiro.pt/cicloficina/
Target group(s): Bicycle users and potential users
Objectives: The main goal is to promote and incentive cycling as a daily means of transportation.
Contribute to stronger ties inside the community, help people becoming more confident and self-sufficient, and make the areas where Cicloficinas take place a meeting and lively point.
Expected Outcomes: The number of participants in each Cicloficina tends to be between 10 and 30.
Prior to each one, we always communicate it to the local newspaper and they publish a small note about it. There has also been some report coverages by that newspaper. We have been twice in a local radio station talking, among other thinks related to cycling as a form of mobility, about the Cicloficinas. And once the portuguese news-agency, Lusa, made an article about it which was published in a few websites, including the portuguese national TV station, RTP, website.
The main impact we have seen, and expect to keep seeing, is that some people who had broken bicycles at home, or people who wouldn't have another way of fixing their bicycles, start or keep using them to move around.
