Detailed description (English): UoP Racing is the Formula Student team of the University of Patras; a student team designing and manufacturing prototype electric cars. With these cars, and under the supervision of the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS), the team has participated in several Formula Student international competitions, competing against hundreds of other teams from various universities around the world.
Since its inception in 2002, which makes it the first Formula Student team established in Greece, UoP Racing's goal is education and training through practice and creation of highly proficient professionals. Through working with the team, students have an excellent opportunity to gain a wide range of knowledge on all aspects of electric car design and manufacturing; a skillset sought after in today's increasingly evolving labor market.
The result of the innovative research of young scientists is a high performance electric vehicle. The UoP5evo is driven by a 100kW electric motor, and the energy is stored in two 500-volt lithium-polymer battery packs. Both the electronic control systems of the car, as well as the battery management and energy recovery systems, have been designed and developed by team members. Torque is transmitted to the driven wheels via a student-designed transmission. The innovative chassis forms the backbone of the car and is made of aluminum sandwich panels, providing the necessary safety, keeping the weight as low as possible, while being economical and fully recyclable.
Over the years, the team has managed to get multiple distinctions in international competitions; the latest ones coming two months ago and including the 3rd place in the Cost and Sustainability event and the 1st place in the overall electric category of the Formula Student UK competition!
