Detailed description (English): The event has been a regular feature since 2000, originally set-up as an event to highlight European Car-Free Day it evolved in support of EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK.
The cycle will leave the park at 11.30am (registration from 11am).
Rebel Pedal was introduced with the intention to promote cycling in the city, to bring Cork cyclists together for some fun and to make a safe environment for parents and their children to get on bikes and enjoy the streets of Cork together.
Following an enjoyable day cycling and having social interaction with others that enjoy cycling people may consider getting around by bike as a feasible, fun, healthy and sustainable way of travelling day to day.
Target group(s): Families and the broad community of the city and county across all ages.
Objectives: To highlight Car Free Day/ In Town Without My car, the Rebel Pedal provides a safe and enjoyable opportunity to enjoy cycling through the main streets of the City of Cork which will encourage people to consider cycling as a more fun and easier way of getting around. Cycling fits in very well to the theme of Multimodality - Mix and Move and in Cork with the roll out of the Cork City Centre Movement Stratgey cycling can support a modality shift and offer connectivity with other more sustainable ways of travelling in the City.
Partner: Cork City Council, Cork Sports Partnership and the Transport & Mobility Forum, Cork.
