All week
We will have a walking streets theme for the day. The road closure will take effect from 10:00 to allow for ents to set up and in order to capture people leaving work, and children leaving from school the street party will start at 12:00 and finish at 6:00pm.
There will be stilt walkers present on the day to emphasise the walking streets theme and we hope to run a show called 'Wembley Past, Present and future' to show the effects that climate change and traffic pollution will have on the borough and what Wembley(Brent) could look like if it were congestion free.
In addition charities with a transport awareness interest will be invited to the street festival to promote their work and their ideas.
There will be lots of literature like 'Trams in Eastern Europe' and 'Poems on the Underground' to generate interest in public transport. We will have models of public transport vehicles on display, and an expo of electric bikes brought by Powabykes to get interest in cycling. In addition the bike hire company Oybikes will be there encouraging people to test ride their bikes.
Signage with 5min walk theme, will point to all the areas of interest within 5 min walk of the closed street, including parks, cafe districts, the Wembley Stadium, the Alperton Street Market and other such attractions.
A Jazz band will keep people entertained while they roam about St.Johns Road. For young children a puppet show, stilt cyclist, jugglers and balloon artist will provide ample entertainment. Free prizes donated by local businesses will generate lots of interest in the event, and we plan to giveway transport prizes such as the memorabilia on display that day and also tickets to the London Transport Museum.
The aim of the day is to show what St Johns Road would feel like without cars, and to get people interested in the idea of car free roads, with lots of market activity, places to go, and stress free walking.
