Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The zone restricted to the private car is in the very center of the City. The streets make part of one of three main traffic corridors passing through the center of the City (average annual traffic per day is about 20,000 vehicles). They are well covered by public transportation (bus) lines, which touch the very center of the City and the busiest pedestrian zone (Korzo). These streets provide an obstacle for a more free pedestrian circulation towards the City contents situated at the coast. The most attractive street is Fiumara (EMW 2007 central event will take place on the Fiumara Street), stretching along the banks of a sea channel with a picturesque sports marina. From the Fiumara Street you can see the medieval Trsat Castle. Till late in the afternoon the street is exposed to the sun. During the summer, major part of the street is protected from the sun by the shadow of a line of trees.
The situation with the traffic on above streets can be observed on-line on the web address: http:// rimis.rijeka.hr , (cameras are mounted on the following streets: Fiumara, Zrtava fasizma and on the Pallazo Modello).
