Further info
An 18-month Experimental Traffic Order has been put in place on The Forbury, Reading. The experiment reallocates road space to public transport and cyclists through the enforcement of a bus lane also available to cyclists and restricting private car access parallel to this bus lane between the hours of 7-11am and 4-7pm. This order reinforces the partial pedestrianisation and bus interchange improvements made to the adjacent Market Place, Reading last year by giving priority to sustainable travel modes in the area.

Reading Borough Council has also introduced four more bus lanes to help reallocate road space in favour of public transport. In turn, these restrictions will help to reduce congestion and improve air quality.

Car-free day Car-free day

Reading carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Reading town centre's pedestrianised area, Broad Street.
