Activities within the week
Tallaght organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2008, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
The focal theme for 2008 is "Clean Air for All". By encouraging walking , cycling and the use of public transport, the council will be contributing to the achievement of the theme. In conjunction with the road closure (see below) a festival entitled "Change Your Way Today" is being held on 22nd September. In addition to cycling (Smoothie Bike etc) and walking events (Pedometer Challenge), the festival will host the Climate Change Awareness Campaign Roadshow.
Permanent measures
Tallaght implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Pedestrianisation
Extension or creation of new greenways
Mobility management
Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
Create systems for buses and walking trains
Car-free day
Tallaght carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The Council is closing a section of the Old Blessington Road from its junction with Belgard Square East (Tuansgate Building) to its junction with the Luas Red Line Terminus. The road will be closed from 8am until 6pm and open solely to pedestrians and cyclists. The area reserved for this purpose will form the site of the "Change Your Way Today" Festival.
