The actions in Östersund during the week strive to encourage sustainable transport in the spirit of the European Mobility Week Charter, especially bringing attention to the problem of the greenhouse effect and air pollution. This year there will also be an extra focus on public health issues.

Östersund (City of Östersund) carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The zone restricted to private cars consists of seven streets in central Östersund.
