Eskilstuna organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2008, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Cycling exhibition. Pod cars exhibition. Information on air pollution due to studded tires. New broschure about air pollution and what to do. Kite work shop and giant soap bubbles for children. Political debate on for example air quality.

- Nybrogatan (a street in the center of Eskilstuna) has been transformed into a car free and nice restaurant street.
- A new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists across Eskilstunaån (the Eskilstuna river) will be built in the fall.
- Rearmament of cyclist and pedestrian roads (Sundbyvägen/Sundbystigen), which increases mobility, security and traffic safety.
- Eight passages for pedestrians and cyclists will be equipped with reinforced lightning.
- Eskilstuna soon has four public air pumps for cyclists.
- A revised cycle map.
- Two new biogas buses will run in the city traffic during fall (a total of 16 biogas buses out of 46).
- Eight new bus stops have been adapted to meet higher accessibility standards.
- ISA (Intelligent support for Speed Adaptation) has been installed in 15 vehicles that belong to the city planning administration. ISA helps the driver to keep accurate speed, which reduces air pollution.

Car-free day Car-free day

Eskilstuna carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Closed streets in the center of Eskilstuna: Drottninggatan, Nygatan, Smedjegatan, Rademachergatan and Kriebsensgatan.
