Activities within the week
Reading organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2008, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
Reading Borough Council are keen to encourage both residents and commuters to participate in sustainable travel, thus contributing to the focal theme 'Clean air for all'. Some of the activities that we plan to hold as part of the European Mobility Week are:
- Issuing free return tickets for the Madejski Stadium Park and Ride facility. These tickets will be distributed on Monday, 22nd September between 7am and 9.30am.
- Travel Surgeries will be held through the week, providing people with information regarding their travel choices.
- Park and Cycle from the Holiday Inn
- Cycle rides into town led by Reading Cycle
Permanent measures
Reading implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Pedestrianisation
Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Public transport services
Improvement and extension of the public transport network (creation of HOV lanes for public transport modes, new stops, new lines, reserved areas etc)
Car-free day
Reading carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
