Participation 2008

The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
The focal theme for 2008 is "Clean Air for All". By encouraging walking , cycling and the use of public transport, the council will be contributing to the achievement of the theme. In conjunction with the road closure (see below) a festival entitled "Change Your Way Today" is being held on 22nd September. In addition to cycling (Smoothie Bike etc) and walking events (Pedometer Challenge), the festival will host the Climate Change Awareness Campaign Roadshow.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The Council is closing a section of the Old Blessington Road from its junction with Belgard Square East (Tuansgate Building) to its junction with the Luas Red Line Terminus. The road will be closed from 8am until 6pm and open solely to pedestrians and cyclists. The area reserved for this purpose will form the site of the "Change Your Way Today" Festival.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
