BIKE TRACKS
The Municipality of Bari have been had for a lot of years a study to realize a network of bike ways, that represents a specific planning instrument that, integrated with other plans, will contribute to improve road safety, to promote use of bike, so to reduce traffic and parking congestion, improving urban environment quality.
The pedestrian- bike system is designed second a street network mainly constituted of ways along the coast from South east to North West, other radial ways that connect suburban quarters with the centre and a system of ring ways that connect the radial ones closing the network.
This theme has a great interest, so the municipal administration has started the construction of a bike that connects the zone of the railway station with park II Giugno. This track is the first step to the realization of the network.
Drawing the way a great attention has been given to location of structures and regional, municipal, quarter and districtual services, obtaining a flexible and accessible way.
BIKE SHARING
The Municipality of Bari is developing a project of bike sharing to rent bike, thanks to a microchip card, in Bari.
The aim of the project is give to citizens different alternative types of means of transport.
Bike sharing service will be destined to citizens, commuters, tourists, whose need, for different reasons, is short movement in the city with a mean of transport faster than car and without problems of parking.
This service is available, every day for 24h, not only for citizens in Bari.
The first step of the project foresees 5 rent points in strategic locations (railway station, Polytechnic, The Court, Park & Ride, City Center), but an implementation to other 7 rent points is foreseen.
The final result will be less pollution, more freedom of movement and a valid alternative to private car.
CAR SHARING
The municipal administration take part to ICS circuit, that gathers all the manager of car Sharing in Italy; actually the administration is choosing the manager for the Car Sharing System in Bari.
MOBILITY MANAGEMENT
The Business Mobility Manager will promote behaviours of sustainable movement along the trip home- work for the employers of the Municipality.
The first step of Business Mobility Manager’s activity is to identify the mobility demand of these employers and structural features of the firm trough drafting and distributing of an investigative questionnaire.
This questionnaire has been distributed among employers of the central Office of Municipality to find all the information and the mobility needs to have a view of actual supply of transportation that will carry to drafting the plan.
Actually the questionnaires are in phase of analysis.
ELECTRIC SHUTTLES
From the beginning of 2008 a system of electric shuttles in Murat Zone has started.
LIMITED TRAFFIC ZONE
From July has started the system of Limited Traffic Zone in Old Town.
PARK & RIDE
After the implementation of Limited Traffic Zone in Old Town, the Park & Ride system has been implemented with an increase of kms to answer to the needs of citizens and commuters in Old Town Center.
