Activities within the week
Swansea organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2008, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
We will be undertaking the organisation of a number of events which promote sustainable transport, predominantly cycling and walking, which reduce the need for car use and will in turn improve transport related air pollution and the sustainable modes promote healthier living.
Permanent measures
Swansea implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Public transport services
Improvement and extension of the public transport network (creation of HOV lanes for public transport modes, new stops, new lines, reserved areas etc)
Mobility management
Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
Elaboration of educational materials
Provision of incentives and bonuses to employers

The development of the Swansea Metro (with ftr) bus is ongoing and the development of a series of priority bus ways will be highlighted by a number of the events, again promoting sustainable travel, not only during European Mobility Week, but throughout the year.
Car-free day
Swansea carries out a Car-Free Day 2008 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Castle Square will be used as a focal pedestrianised point for the ITWMC climax to European Mobility Week, where those who have undertaken challenges in the week will be rewarded for their efforts.
