All week
Promotion of Car Free Day in two ways;
1) Internally with Council Staff including a month of sustainable travel initiaties during September (with a focus on ITWMC), which include; a lunch-hour travel surgery, a sustainable travel challenge (participants to trial different types of travel and record times and experiences), launch of an internal travel magazine to staff (which will become a regular feature) and a travel competition.
2) With schools (previously not a focus of our past campaigns) through a ‘Travelbug’ newsletter containing information on; Car Free Day event and the environmental & health benefits of sustainable travel, setting up & reviewing travel plans, signing up to Bikeability & family cycle training, and encouraging schools to take up a challenge to mark the event on 22 September such as closure of the school car park. A 'Green Miles' challenge is being run with local radio station Reading107fm requiring schools to record journeys by sustainable modes, and the school with the most 'green' miles being awarded a prize.
