Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
‘In Town Without My Car’ (Car Free Day) – ‘Streets Alive’
Tuesday, 22nd September 2009
‘Streets Alive’ sees the closure of a section of Main Street, Loughrea to facilitate its use as community space and to host a mini zoo and animal roadshow providing a range of animals and wildlife including birds of prey, reptiles etc. The event will give members of the public an unique opportunity to experience a more hands on approach than when viewing the animals at the zoo.
‘Streets Alive’ is intended as a family event with cartoon characters, face painting, balloon modelling and street theatre taking place at various times during the day. People visiting ‘Streets Alive’ and/or shopping on Main Street during the event will be eligible to enter a draw for prizes sponsored by Galway County Council. The prizes will consist of 10 €100 shopping vouchers in favour of businesses in Loughrea as selected by the 10 winners.

The temporary road closure will apply to Main Street, Loughrea from its junction with King Street to its junction with Church Street from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm on Tuesday, 22nd September 2009.
