Tyne & Wear organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
Throughout EMW 2010 we will be promoting the idea of active travel across Tyne and Wear. This will follow on from our current summer campaign in the region which is focusing on the promotion of active travel such as walking and cycling. during EMW we plan to have a roadshow travelling around the region which will feature activities such as led walks, bike rides around the city, as well as various agencies who focus on the promotion of active travel such as Sustrans and living Streets.
Permanent measures
Tyne & Wear implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
New forms of vehicle use and ownership
Launch of online car-pooling and car-sharing schemes
Responsible car-use (eco-driving etc)
Mobility management
Adoption of workplace travel plans
Launch of awareness-raising campaigns
Elaboration of educational materials
Car-free day
Tyne & Wear carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
We plan to have a street party outside of a school in the region. This will result in the road being closed throughout the school day, we are doing this in conjuction with another campaign in the region, Be Air Aware. They already work with nominated flagship schools in the region and will be assiting with the coordination of the event.
