Brno (City of Brno) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
With the aim to emphasize healthy movement in the city, we prepare a number of activities focused on walking in the city and inline skating which is popular especially among young generation.
There will be organized series of inline skates city rides, accompanied with inline skates courses. For all age groups there will be many activities aimed at walking, such as Nordic Walking courses, guided tours in city parks, followed by exercises in new fitpark and walks with open air music performance.

1. Creation of traffic lanes for cyclists in existing communications, contributing to reallocation of transport space in behoof of cyclists.
2. Reconstructions of communications and squares in the city centre, focused on enlargement of space for pedestrians and making new areas for relax.
3. Building up the “Information Mobility Centre”, giving to Brno citizens and visitors information on public transport in the city and the whole region.
4. Elaborating “General Bicycle Traffic Plan”, whose part will be also an interactive map, placed on the City of Brno website.
5. Elaborating “General Pedestrian Traffic Plan” that also includes publishing maps of footways in the city, aiming to support walking in the city.
6. Increasing the number of low-floored vehicles of public transport, meeting emission levels EURO.
7. Participating the City of Brno in the European project TROLLEY, focused on increasing proportion of ecological trolley transport in the city and elaborating documents for enlarging trolley lines in the city.
8. Establishing the “Optimalization of electric energy consumption system” in the public transport vehicles, giving information about electric energy consumption, leading to its optimalization; improving travelling comfort by placing new electronic panels informing about departures and arrivals of public transport.

Car-free day Car-free day

Brno (City of Brno) carries out a Car-Free Day 2010 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The main activity will be the inline skates city ride in the streets commonly used by cars, including the closure of the area around the shopping centre. In zones restricted to cars round the shopping centre there will be all-day programme that includes presentations of alternative modes of transport, such as electric bicycles, segways and for young generation scooters, skateboards, jumping stilts and waveboards. For children and young people there will be prepared competitions and games with the topic of injuries prevention and introducing principles of safe cycling.
