Funchal organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2010, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Funchal´s Municipality will have several actions related to this edition´s theme. Besides the awareness campaigns for mobility and health that will be made with the cooperation of local authorities, the Municipality will also promove a conference, regarding mobility and health issues.

Funchal implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
Traffic calming and access control scheme
Integration of a device in public buses for bicycles transportation
New forms of vehicle use and ownership

This year will mark the implementation of two permanent measures regarding a more sustainable mobility in our city. Therefore one of this year´s Mobility Week highlight´s will be the introduction of a pioneer service, entitled “Bus and Bike”. This new feature will be implemented in some public buses. The buses will be equipped with a device to attach the bicycles making possible its transportation in larger distances.
The Mobility Week will also mark the integration of a hybrid vehicle in the Municipality´s fleet. The acquision of this vehicle, a Toyota Prius, with its state of the art technology reflects the Municipality´s effort´s, regarding a more sustainable mobility.
