canale monterano organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2011, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
o Activation of new mobility services for sustainable mobility: in 2011 established 10 Home to Work Trip Plans (HWTP), completed the experimental phase and launched the car sharing system bid to cover the entire city area with at least 300 vehicles, enhanced spread and extension of the charging network for electric vehicles with additional 150 charge points;
o Starting and development of the European project of cooperation GREEN EMOTION, supporting the electric mobility and the last mile mobility concept;
o Development of the European project STADIUM cooperation for the development of alternative mobility in large sport events;
o Development and conclusion in the year 2011 of the European project CITEAIR II for comparison of methods for environmental data and mobility in urban areas;
o Development and conclusion in the year 2011 of the European project CONDUITS where methods for assessing the key performance indicators of mobility in urban areas were tested in conjunction with the EU ITS Action Plan objectives;
o Development of the European project CIVITAS CATALIST, whose aim is to promote the EU CIVITAS approach to sustainable mobility and soft modes;
o Development of the European project EGNOS2ROAD, studying applications in urban areas of the EGNOS European satellite system to promote mobility applications based on satellite tracking of vehicles for better management and environmental impact of public and private transport fleets;
o Renewal of the public transport fleet. 160 new buses EURO 5 were purchased by Roma TPL operator for 2011 and similar amounts are expected for the next two years. The ATAC fleet renewal program is continuing and it is now operating with the largest fleet of electric buses in Europe to serve the city centre

Further info
o Extension of Limited Traffic Zones and pedestrian areas for the “Pedestrian old town project” (about 5 sq km) consisting of several phases of implementation: the first, covering the so-called Tridente, is under implementation in 2011 with some interventions running. In the subsequent second phase in the whole historical centre the mobility will be ensured only by vehicles with low or no environmental impact.
o Two new subway lines are under construction, line B1 and line C, which will serve thousands of new passengers everyday. In January 2012 three new stations of the B1 Line and the part Pantano –Centocelle of the C Line will be opened.
o Mobility corridors: in 2011 is under construction in the corridor Eur / Tor de 'Cenci and Eur Laurentina/ Tor Pagnotta;
o Urban renovation in mobility with a widespread action to implement Detailed Plans for Urban Mobility (DPUM) in each city district where already 60 projects on the main road network and local were completed in the past. In 2011 were contracted about 20 new projects and further 3 DPUM approved with expectation of approximately 30 new interventions.
o Structural improvement and tuning of the primary road network (about 300 km) and functional reorganization of the axes with local intervention and technological upgrading of traffic lights with new LED lights and new devices for 193 installations;
o Implementation of new bike lanes;
o Set-up of the Environmental and Climate Change Observatory of Roma Capitale;
o Adoption of the Action Plan on Sustainable Energy of Roma Capitale;
o Adoption of the new plan for tourist buses including regulations for the use of vehicles with low environmental impact, in addition to a general reduction of circulating vehicles;
o Adoption of the new city plan for the distribution of goods, including regulations to limit the use of vehicles with high environmental impacts especially in the city centre and to promote vehicles with low or zero emission.

Car-free day Car-free day

canale monterano carries out a Car-Free Day 2011 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Via Dei Fori Imperiali. It's the old Emperor street, starting from Colosseo to Piazza Venezia – the old heart of the city where similar event were held in the past. During the day, the Municipal companies involved in mobility and waste services will organize activities as well as they will involve citizens in demonstrating the feasibility of alternative mobility in everyday life.
