Derry/Londonderry organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2011, taking into account the annual theme.

New dedicated foot & cycle bridge opened.
Reallocation of car parking and road space for walking and cycling.
Promotion of new integrating public transport ticketing system for bus/rail.
Launch of city's public bike hire scheme.
New TravelSmart map showing all walking/cycling and public transport routes in the city.
Launch of TravelSmart page on Derry City Council's webpage with digital information and links to all local sustainable transport modes in the region.

Car-free day Car-free day

Derry/Londonderry carries out a Car-Free Day 2011 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Apart from the new foot & cycle bridge, new car free zones have been established within the public realm of the city centre.

Along Queen's Quay car parking spaces have been removed an designated as shared use walking and cycling paths with new seating and planting schemes planned.

New pedestrian and cycling crossings have been installed and wider pavements that have narrowed road space in favour of pedestrians.

A new £2.2million traffic-free walking and cycling greenway is under construction which will link the new Peace Brdige to communities along the River Foyle away from the road network.
