Χερσονήσος (Hersonisos)
organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2011, taking into account the annual theme.
The motto during the Mobility Week in Hersonissos that focuses on Alternative Mobility will be “I protect the environment – I improve my life”. The proposed actions are aiming at promoting alternative, sustainable mobility:
1. Promotion of walking benefits in health, society, environment and economy.
2. Projection of the historical importance of walking rallies for protest and expression of social demands.
3. Walking tours through designated routes.
4. Promotion of bicycle use.
5. Promotion of low-carbon emission vehicles.
Permanent measures

implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

Pedestrianisation
Create or enlarge pedestrian streets

Car-free day
Χερσονήσος (Hersonisos)
carries out a Car-Free Day 2011 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
1. The car-restricted zone will be the Agias Paraskevis road, that is adjacent to the port in Hersonissos, a road with immense tourist influx during the summer period (April to October
2. Following Local Board Resolution of Hersonissos village, car entrance has been restricted at the main road of the village between 19:00 and 23:00 for the period 15th May to 15th October.
3. Following Resolution from the Life Quality Commission, car parking has been restricted from the village square of Avdou.
