Taipei organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2012, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
The themes of Taipei International Car free day are public rental bike and humanistic transport. The slogan is “ It’s not my Tan(It sounds like carbon in Chinese)”which reflects the slogan for 2012 European Mobility Week. We plan a series of activities to promote car free day and encourage people using public transport and green mode. In practice , we have implemented many strategies related to sustainable and humanistic transport include popularizing low-floor buses, promoting low-pollution public transportation vehicles, expanding the coverage of public rental bike system, providing more comfortable pedestrian environment, expanding bicycle lanes, provision of bike parking facilities in the city and so on.
Permanent measures

New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems

Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Public transport services
Improvement and extension of the public transport services (express services, increase frequency etc)

The major permanent measure is “YouBike Expansion Program”. From this year, the coverage of the public bicycle rental system (YouBike) has been expanded. 41 rental stations and 1,460 bicycles will be provided.
or giving a barrier-free public transport environment, we have been replacing the previous buses by the low-flow buses continuously. A total of 1,010 low-floor buses were introduced into service in the end of 2011. This year, another 552 low-floor buses will be provided to create a more convenient, accessible public transport environment.
In order to improve cycling environment, we have launched many action plans such as expanding bike lane network to 225 kilometer from 136.6km. Moreover, 1500 bicycle racks and 400 cycling signs are installed.
For building an easy and comfortable public transportation environment, we have kept building bus shelters. There will be 322 bus shelters provided (including renewal and building new ones) this year. We also have installed intelligent bus stops to provide real time bus information. There will be approximately 120 new intelligent bus stops constructed this year.
Car-free day
Taipei carries out a Car-Free Day 2012 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
The Xinyi Commercial District where is one of most bustling and busiest area in Taipei will have road closure on September 22 this year. The closed area is about 19260 meter squared where will open for bicycles and pedestrian use only.
