organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2012, taking into account the annual theme.
All week
This year's events will be focused on alternative means of transportation, especially the use of existing bus routes and bicycles and the presentation of new initiatives that will promote sustainable mobility and development through the involvement of stakeholders and the public.
Permanent measures
Larnaka (Λάρνακα)
implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
New or improved bicycle facilities
Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
Pedestrianisation
Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Extension or creation of new greenways
Traffic calming and access control scheme
Reduction of outside parking zones
Accessibilities
Create wheelchair ramps
Enlargement of pavements
Launch of accessibility plans
New forms of vehicle use and ownership

The design and implementation of permanent measures to promote sustainable mobility in Larnaka, is an ongoing process. The major works that are currently being constructed include bicycle lanes and pedestrianized areas, according to Larnaka Municipality's Sustainable Mobility Strategy and Policies.
In addition to the above, due to Larnaka Municipality's commitment to improve quality of life and of the environment, sustainable mobility measures are foreseen and designed for every work done in the city.
Car-free day
Larnaka (Λάρνακα)
carries out a Car-Free Day 2012 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Several zones are restricted to the private car, either permanently (like Hermes Square or St. Lazarus and Medieval Castle Squares) or during specific periods (like Athenon Avenue during weekends). For the purposes of the events, various streets and avenues will be closed to road traffic.
