The National Carpool Day during the European Mobility Week 19.9.2013
During the European Mobility Week on the National Carpool Day electronic carpool networking portals will be promoted for the commuters of a big industrial park in Lieto, a municipality near Turku. A Carpool promotion event will be held in that area and throughout the week carpooling groups will share their experiences about carpooling in social medias.
The National Teleworking Day during the European Mobility Week 20.9.2013
On the National Teleworking Day the possibilities of teleworking will be promoted by demonstrating in public spaces like libraries. These happenings will bring into attention how the municipalities can support flexible working amongst their inhabitants. The fact that through support for teleworking possibilities the municipality will get more satisfied inhabitants, more users for its services and new cooperation networks will be highlighted in the demonstrations.
The International Car Free Day street event 22.9.2013
On the international Car Free Day a cheerful and operational street event with strong visibility will take place in the city center of Turku. Valonia together with its partner organizations will organize this free of charge street event that offers activities for people of all ages.
The highlights of the event include the performance of the rap artist Paleface who is the official guardian of the Finnish Mobility week, and mobility themed Alias –game sessions where local politicians and students will compete together.
The participants of the event have the possibility to try electric bikes, to safely try out roller skating and different bike models, and to participate in competitions while getting a free quick service for their own bikes. Cyclers will get their rubber wheels pumped and chains oiled. In the event the participants will have the possibility to get to know the bus routes. Information about the many ecological and social aspects related to smarter transportation modes will be shared as well. Guided bike tours and nordic walking tours will also be organized.
A broad network of public organizations, experts and NGOs are responsible for organizing the event. Most of these organizations have been involved in organizing the Car Free Day before.
