Participation 2016

The participant is committed to:

Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
On day event “Day without car” took a place in City of Zenica, on September 22nd, 2016. The street “Školska 4” was closed for all transport in the period from 12:00 -16:00, while promotional bike ride was organized on the streets of the city.
This event has been organizing in Zenica since 2002. The primary goal is to make our city the part of European initiative, which in other hand promotes alternative modes of transport, such as public transport, biking and walking.

This event included the following activities:

- Promotional bike ride on the street of the city
- Educational workshops (usage of alternative transport)
- Practical workshops for children
- Discussions on subject “Bike-recreation and transport in one”
- Directors of 15 public companies used public transport to get to the work

This manifestation gathered children from kindergartens, students from grade schools, student from high schools and many other citizens of City of Zenica.
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
  • New traffic regulations: traffic circulation and parking
  • Lowering of pavements
