The participant is committed to:

Organising a week of activities, taking into account the focal theme.
Actions relative to the theme:
The city of Águeda will develop a large and innovative number of activities that encourage the use of soft mobility means to citizens and visitors. The main innitiatives will occur in the city area with more tradicional shops. The promotion for the use of bikes to go to shop or even to deliver produts will be the main focus. Águeda in known has the two wheel city, with local companies that produce bicycles. These companies are working together to present in a event that will occur on the 23rd of september new means of transport to deliver products to and from shops. Awareness of the use of softer means and low environmental impact has already begun with surveys addressing this issue from local shops/stores (attached the results). Bearing in mind the theme to be addressed this year, "Smart mobility. Strong economy ", various activities related to the matter of sustainable mobility will be developed, involving the economic fabric in these actions, giving relevance to this sector, which, in the understanding of the municipality, is to be supported and encourage.
Thus, among others:
- Cerciag on Moviment, the Cerciag promotes with the support of the municipality of Águeda several activities: This year's event program includes adapted sports and adventure activities, cultural workshops and awareness-raising under the Disability, Lifestyle and Environment. It is still in preparation a Zen Zone and Tradition Zone. It will take place the Parade of Alternative Transportation at the end of the activities, which is now in its 6th edition;
- It will be made an exhibit “Fazedores & Inventores” ("Doers & Inventors") gathering producers, businessmen, industrialists and creatives associated with bicycle; this initiative aims to disseminate to the general public and other interested stakeholders, the state-of-the-art, promoting the flow and exchange of information and arising synergies;
- Realization of industrial tour: visits to industrial facilities producting bicycles, and centers research and innovation for two wheels; lerning about the manufacturing process of bicycles and quality evaluation on two wheels
- Realization of workshops focusing learning and use of bicycles; this workshops are developed by an association linked to the bike (Ciclaveiro)
- Music and animation on wheels: animation shows around the city (sounds and music using bicycle parts - a spontaneous orchestra)
- Exhibition September 16 to 25: (exposure of various bicycle models and shows the progress to date;
- Elegance Contest, open to all types of bicycles with prizes;
- Street animation, arruada and musical groups inspired by cycling to the instrumental part;
- Street entertainment: kamishibai (on bike);
- Street entertainment: environmental awareness through various recreational and educational dynamics, calling attention to the benefits of soft modes throughout the week of mobility;
- Giant Bicycle Human Logo, involving local population and visitors (on the 25th)
- Conducting sightseeing / smooth tourism, using the soft mobility modes - cycling;
- Street closure for the private car traffic;
- Tours "Tricycle" (rickshaw type), whose result will be used for
- Space Special Ones - Tours adapted bikes for blind people and people with reduced mobility;
- Social Fair bicycle: exchanges and components; raising bikes used to refood and cicloficinas;
- Traffic school for children;
- - 6º Solidarity Walking and Racing event, organized by the Municipal Centre of March and Race of Agueda, open to the entire population, with different paths for walking and running through the city streets;
- Challenge to schools oriented to pupils, teachers and other school community, so during the SEM to use soft mobility means to do the trips school-home-school
- Disclosure of SEM and DESC in the media available;
- Challenge the municipal workers and employees, for not to use the private car;
- Raising public awareness by holding events in the city center to encourage the use of soft mobility;
- Providing flyers of hiking trails;
- Dissemination of the application of hiking trails, mobile (WalkinÁgueda);
- Reinforce the dissemination of the European project "TRACE", which aims the promotion of sustainable mobility and change of behavior on this matter, and of which Águeda is pilot.
Also the technitians of the municipality will participate in a meeting that will be hyeld in Stockholm related to mobility - an european project in wich Agueda is a Partner: CISMOB.
Carrying out a Car-Free Day event by closing one or more streets to traffic, and opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. This should preferably happen on 22 September to mark your town or city as part of World Car-Free Day.
Zone opened to residents on Car-Free Day:
Closing Luiz de Camões, Vasco da Gama, José Maria Veloso; Jornal Soberania do Povo streets to traffic, and instead opening it to pedestrians, cyclists and other practitioner of sustainable mobility. Another street will be closed from the 23rd to the 25th of september to the event Águeda + B (Águeda more bicycles)
Implementing one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.
Permanent measures implemented this year:
New or improved bicycle facilities
  • Improvement of bicycle network (creation of new lanes, extension, renovation, signposting etc)
  • Develop public bicycle hiring and sharing systems
  • Improvement of bicycle facilities (parking, locks etc)
  • Other: Distribution of bicycles for free use among the students of several schools of the municipality of Águeda. 50 bikes will be offered to the participants of the ciclotourism (on 25th of September)
  • Create or enlarge pedestrian streets
  • Improvement of infrastructure (new foot bridges, pavements, road crossings, zebra crossings etc)
  • Extension or creation of new greenways
  • Other: Implementation of 4 news ST (Short Trail), promoting smooth mobility on leisure.
Public transport services
  • Improvement and extension of the public transport services (express services, increase frequency etc)
  • Development of new technologies to improve public transport
  • Launch of integrated services for the various public transport modes
Traffic calming and access control scheme
  • Speed reduction programmes in zones near schools
  • Create park and ride stations
  • Create the tactile pavements

  • Other: There will be implemented several measures on the area of tourism for all; although, this measures also benefit the local inhabitants.

  • Other: The Municipality of Águeda is aware of the importance of transport for GHG emissions, therefore, some of the cars of the municipal fleet are electric or hybrids.

More details on permanent measures:

The smooth mobility should be constantly encouraged. Therefore, several initiatives will be extended throughout the year, aiming the awareness of inhabitants to this reality. Behavioral change programs will be developed among diverse population groups, scholar community, workers, local business, etc. should be closely involved. Enhancement of the municipal sharing bike park, as well as the delivery of bicycles for the exclusive use of schools, aims to facilitate access to this traveling mean. The use of public transport and the existence of a network of school transport plans have the goal of reduce schools traffic associated with the movement of private vehicles to transport students.
Regardless of the initiatives related to cycling there are projects to study routes, operating modes and ways of implementing walking-trains, in order to get safe ways to make the journey home-school-home in the case of children and young people who do not feel confident on bicycle use.
The incentive to use of sustainable means of transport also is being worked on the tourism, through the implementation of 4 new ST (Short Trail), to join the other 8 already existing on the council.
