Further info
Nicosia Municipality in partnership with the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, the Department of Environment (Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment) and the Press Information Office in Cyprus are organising an open air event at Faneromeni Square, on Friday 22 September.
With this year’s motto “Sharing gets you further”, the goal of the event is to urge people to use shared means of transport instead of their private cars. Nicosia Municipality’s new, accessible, latest technology mini buses aim to reduce the number of cars going into the within the old city of Nicosia. The new buses link the historic centre and the city’s modern shopping centre with lines and stops that serve residents, visitors and workers.
In order to celebrate EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK, all citizens who would like to visit the event, are encouraged to park their private cars for free outside the walled city and take the mini bus to get to Faneromeni Square. During the event, certain mini bus routes will be offering live guided tours of the city, giving the passengers information about the city’s most important monuments and tourist attractions. Last but not least, everyone who chooses to use the mini buses for their daily transportation, from 16 September to 16 October , will automatically enter a competition and get the chance to win a bicycle.
During the event at Faneromeni square there will be lots of fun activities for children and families, as well as pavilions informing citizens about sustainable mobility issues and initiatives such as the INTERREG Europe project “INNOVASUMP” coordinated by Nicosia Municipality.
