Valmiera organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2018, taking into account the annual theme.

16 September
Celebration of the " Car-Free Day" in Valmiera. On 16th of September there will the 12th Valmiera marathon take place in Valmiera. On this day starts also the European Mobility Week that traditionally takes place on 16th - 22nd of September. Valmiera City municipality starts this week with an invitation to join Valmiera mayor Mr. Janis Baiks on a special marathon distance jointly celebrating the "Car-Free Day". The 6km walk will start at 11.00 a.m. and Valmiera mayor invites to join every person who supports environmentally friendly everyday mobility. This will be a walking distance of the marathon. And also families with baby strollers are invited to join. 17 September
Launch of the social network campaign "Bikers friendliest employer in Valmiera" - a press release and an invitation to vote for bikers friendliest employers will be sent.
18 September
The day inviting to go by bike to the work. Valmiera Eco-schools youth together with Valmiera municipality will organise a campaign "Bicycle unites". Students of Valmiera Eco-schools will unite and go in a bike ride using available bike routes and visiting backyards of Valmiera apartment buildings where they will play backyard games and invite the inhabitants and children living in these apartment houses to join. In parallel information on multi-modality will be spread and people will be questioned on these issues, as well as information on available municipal support on possibilities to improve the landscape and infrastructure of the backyard will be spread. Activities in the backyards will be organised order to promote and strengthen the common-feeling of local communities of the apartment buildings and in order to promote multimodality and usage of environmentally friendly modes of transportation in everyday life.

An inquiry on issues of multimodality will be launched in social networks of Valmiera municipality.
20 September
A press release with an invitation to take care about security on streets - every property owner is responsible that no branches of trees and bushes growing in their property disturb the traffic (pedestrians, bikers and motorised veehicles) and reduce the visibilty on streets.
21 September
Finish of the the social networks camapaign - voting for the bikers friendliest employer. The "bikers friendliest employer" will receive a European Mobility Week gratitude by the municipality. All the "bikers friendliest" employers will be mentioned in a press release.
22 September
In order to support environmentally friendly mobility and celebrating European Mobility week participants of two seminars taking place in Valmiera - a seminar on addictions (organised by Valmiera Lutheran church) and a seminar on treating "The difficult children" (organised by Valmiera Baptist church) - will be invited to come to the event using environmentally friendly modes of mobility. The on participants that will have used either a bike, public transport or have walked to the seminar venue will be rewarded with a souvenir of the European Mobility week.

Valmiera carries out a Car-Free Day 2018 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
