Activities within the week Activities within the week

Gent (Ghent) organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2023, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
Launch of campaign to put premiums and subsidies for environmentally friendly mobility in the spotlight. The City of Ghent offers premiums and subsidies for environmentally friendly mobility to its residents and companies. For example, citizens can receive premiums if they hand in their old license plate or if they get their old car or moped scrapped. Companies can receive premiums if, for example, they install charging stations or share electric cars. In the autumn of 2023, these premiums will be put in the spotlight again, with testimonials about the scrapping premiums for mopeds. In collaboration with intermediaries, we also bring the campaign to the attention of the relevant target groups.
17 September
Car-Free Day: the zone within Ghent’s R40 ring road will be closed to motorised traffic between 10 am and 6 pm. Several events take place in the inner city, including a vintage flea market, music concerts and a bicycle market. More information: www.stad.gent/gentautovrij
18 September
Launch of online campaign to promote car sharing amongst citizens. The benefits of car sharing for the individual feature centrally in this campaign, and 4 characters have been developed symbolizing these benefits, each with their own baseline: 1) the ‘Lord of the small ring’, only pays for what he rides, 2) the ‘Baroness of doesn't care’, doesn't stress about insurance or maintenance, 3) the ‘Queen of choice’, rides what she wants, and 4) the ‘King of parking’, finds a space everywhere. The campaign is posted on social media and aims to introduce people to (the benefits) of car sharing.
22 September
On Friday 22 September, 'Strapdag' will take place. On this day, we call on all children to walk or pedal/cycle to school that day. Dozens of schools in Ghent will make the street at the school gate traffic-free for 1 day and organize extra activities to draw attention to Strapdag. More information:
