Further info
European Mobility Week is an annual campaign that promotes sustainable and active forms of transportation in cities across Europe. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and creating safer and more enjoyable urban spaces.

In the city of Zagreb, various measures have been implemented during European Mobility Week to encourage alternative modes of transport. One significant change is the closure of certain areas to motor traffic. This decision has been made to prioritize pedestrians and create a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

The Upper Town area will be closed to motor traffic, including sections of Mesnička and Ilirski Square. Additionally, a specific area bounded by several streets will be inaccessible to vehicles. Martićeva Street west of Smičiklasova will also be closed to motor traffic. These closures will not only reduce congestion but also provide an opportunity for people to explore the city on foot or by bicycle.

Furthermore, the city has introduced temporary bike lanes and increased the availability of bike-sharing services. These initiatives aim to encourage cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transportation.

Zagreb is also promoting public transportation during European Mobility Week. The city has increased the frequency of buses and trams, making it more convenient for residents to use public transport.

By implementing these measures, Zagreb is taking important steps towards creating a more sustainable and livable city. European Mobility Week serves as a reminder that we can all contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and improving our urban environment by choosing more sustainable modes of transportation.

Car-free day Car-free day

Zagreb (City of Zagreb) carries out a Car-Free Day 2023 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

The Upper Town area will have a complete traffic ban, including no access to Mesnička north of Streljačka Street and access from Ilirski Square. Additionally, there will be a traffic ban within the area bounded by the streets Ul. Tome Mikloušića, Zvonarnička, Ribnjak, Palmotićeva to Ul. Ruđer Bošković, Ul. Ruđer Bošković via Hebrangova to Gundulićeva, Gundulićeva to Ilica, Ilica to Mesnička, and Mesnička to Streljačka. Lastly, Martićeva Street west of Smičiklasova will also have a traffic ban in place. These measures aim to enhance pedestrian safety, improve traffic flow, and create a more enjoyable urban environment during the European Mobility Week.
