Mafra implements one or more new permanent measure(s), which contribute(s) to modal transfer from private car to environmentally sound means of transport.

Road Safety Plan 2020-2022 – Implementation of measures to reduce road accidents, promoting correct and safe circulation;

Active Mobility Projects – for the benefit of sustainable and safe mobility, Mafra promotes the implementation of controlled speed zones, prohibition of circulation at busy times, reinforcement of signage on pedestrian crossings and near schools and restricts the circulation of heavy vehicles in certain areas streets. The objective of this is to try to raise awareness among our residents to adopt a driving style that is not only safe, but also has a lower environmental impact, that is, Eco-Driving;

Public Transport – In addition to the continuity of the new “Navegante” pass, in 2022 the road transport operation will be reinforced through the entry into operation of Carris Metropolitana, whose objective is to increase the service through the availability of more buses and new routes and circulations . Another objective is the renewal and qualification of the fleet, by reducing the average age of buses from 15 years to less than one year, and the inclusion of a percentage of non-polluting and energy-efficient vehicles, with eco-driving measures, economical driving , safe and comfortable. It is important to note that it is possible to use the different types of navigation pass on Carris.

Cycle paths & pedestrian routes – Mafra invests in the construction and maintenance of sidewalks for pedestrian routes and cycle paths and in improving the road network, with the execution of paving in streets, creating better circulation conditions;

Urban Parks of Rego (Ericeira) and Póvoa da Galega – The Municipality of Mafra invests in the construction of Parks, with the aim of providing residents with places to enjoy nature, creating green areas and promoting accessibility to public transport with the benefit to increase parking capacity near areas with centralized services;

Other Urban Requalification works – The Municipality’s urban management activity aims to guarantee the correct planning of the territory, and the urban and environmental environment, as well as promoting its sustainability;

Municipal Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (EMAAC) of Mafra – Climate change constitutes one of the main threats on a planetary scale, with consequences ranging from the environment to health, including the economy. The main cause of climate variation is the greenhouse effect caused by certain gases in the atmosphere (greenhouse gases, such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide (N2O)). With this in mind, the Municipality carefully studies its reality and seeks to apply measures to adapt to climate change;

Climate Action Plan (PAC 2030) – The main objective of PAC 2030 is to make Lisbon “Neutral, resilient and inclusive”, so the plan is made up of a series of goals and objectives that seek to achieve a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. greenhouse effects and invest heavily in green energy. At the moment, the PAC is in the competitive process phase.
