Activities within the week Activities within the week

Velenje organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2023, taking into account the annual theme.

All week
We will implement the kiss and drive station during the mobility week on Rudarska cesta. The measure will be implemented on a trial basis during the ETM, in case it is a successful measure, it could also be kept as a permanent measure. For this purpose, we will purchase a movable traffic sign (K+R). We will also advertise this temporary measure so that it is really used as much as possible.

We will hold a competition How I experience public transport in Velenje. We will encourage young people to make a Tik tok video, and then we will also reward the best three. The target group is young people from Velenje, but then this clip will be intended for everyone. The best video will be used to promote public transport in Velenje.

Kindergartens in Velenje have already started playing the Active Kindergarten game with the White Rabbit. The game is intended for older groups in kindergartens, i.e. from 3-6 years. With this game, parents and children will be encouraged to come to kindergarten sustainably. We will organize a promotional campaign and a visit of the "White rabbit" in the Velenje jugs. With this activity, professionals will also be educated on the topic of sustainable mobility, and with this knowledge they will help to spread awareness on this topic and children's learning. Children's movement will be encouraged, travel habits will change and traffic around the kindergarten will be reduced.

At the administration of the municipality of Velenje, we organized "Car-free work" days for employees. Anyone who comes to work without a car will be entered into a draw for a prize. The activity is carried out throughout the month of September.
19 September
On Tuesday, September 19, as part of ETM, we will organize a Day without a car, so we will close Rudarska cesta to all traffic between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Various sports activities and a varied cultural program will take place on it, with which we will show what can happen on the surfaces where traffic now takes place. The events will be aimed at all our citizens, and we will especially use them to raise awareness among children and young people. On the closed Rudarska cesta, we will set up a soccer field, a badminton court and various stalls. Elementary school students will be able to test themselves on training grounds for riding a bicycle, a safe driving simulator, and learn basic bicycle repairs. Kindergarten children will also participate in the event, learning old games that their parents or grandparents played. The elderly will exercise in the morning and afternoon, to which the visitors of this event will also be invited. In the afternoon, the band Big bang from music school Fran Korun Koželjski will perform. Later, various dance schools from Velenje will also present themselves and dance on closed road.

We will hold a workshop for the elderly on the arrangement of public infrastructure and talk about problematic sections of the route. We will discuss with the participants the arrangement of footpaths in Velenje and cycle paths from the point of view of safety and comfort, and to find out which sections are problematic. The aim of the workshop itself is therefore to identify problems and formulate proposals for improvement. We will then try to eliminate the identified problematic parts.

On a car-free day, at least 50% of the municipality's employees will choose a sustainable way to travel. Key management personnel will also come to work on this day in a sustainable way.
21 September
We will conclude with the How do I experience public transport in Velenje competition. We will choose the best three videos and reward them as well. The best video will be used to promote public transport in Velenje.
22 September
All Fridays in September we are dedicating to cycling breakfasts. Between 6 and 8 in the morning, we will be at the bike path, which is in the immediate vicinity of secondary schools and one of the primary schools in Velenje. The breakfast is intended for all people who, for their journey to work, school, etc. choose bike, rather than a car.
