San Lawrenz organises activities during EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK 2023, taking into account the annual theme.

The theme focuses on saving energy by creating a closed open space in the heart of the village – the village square - and organizing engaging children's games, including water-based activities, that promote environmental awareness and community engagement.

Promote Energy Conservation: The closed open space concept aims to minimize energy consumption within the village, fostering a sense of shared responsibility for environmental sustainability.
Encourage Active Mobility: By providing a safe and accessible area, the closed open space encourages residents to choose active modes of transportation such as walking and cycling, reducing the reliance on vehicles.
Educate Through Play: Organizing eco-friendly children's games, including water games, will raise awareness about water conservation and other environmental issues among the younger generation.

Launching and distribution of an informative booklet to the whole locality promoting the importance of staying healthy and having a sustainable community.
18 September
The Pjazza San Lawrenz, Cangura Street and Trejqet l-10 t’Awissu will be all closed to traffic to host fun event. The Pjazza San Lawrenz will be transformed As part of the event marketing we will encourage people from Malta and Gozo to car pool and use public transport to get to the event. The Local Council will also offer further information and help for those that wish to carpool or even those that wish to register to make use of our fully electric community van.

In order to abide by the Health Regulations, The San Lawrenz Local Council will have security in charge of temperature checking, sanitizing, social distancing, and other measures that the Health Regulations will require at the time of the event.

Starting this week with the help of having prominent people from the locality (eg. the Mayor, councillors, parish priest, etc) making use of public transport, cycling and even going to work on foot, thus encouraging the locals to follow their example.

Games for all ages will be organised at the Pjazza. There will be planned game activities as well as bouncy castles for the young ones. This will be done with the intent to encourage residents to re-start their fitness routine. This event will also coincide with our Car Free Day.

San Lawrenz carries out a Car-Free Day 2023 and closes off one or more streets to traffic, and opens it to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
