Detailed description (English): Murcia 30 : Campaign to support the measure that the DGT intends to implement in the cities of Spain to reduce the urban speed limit in the cities.
Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico de Murcia is committed to promote and support the measure that the DGT intends to implement in the cities of Spain to reduce from 50 to 30 km/h the speed limit on single-lane streets in the cities. This is a a campaign aiming to set urban speed limits at 30km/h; some as part of a wider campaign to improve the quality of life in urban areas.
No matter how safe vehicles, roads and drivers are, all of these things will fail beyond certain speeds. Each road must be designed to have speeds that are in line with the injury potentials on each type of road in the event of a crash. The level of harm to vulnerable road users rises dramatically at speeds of higher than 30 km/h, making this the sensible default limit for places where vehicles and people mix
Road safety policies in the European Union are based on the Vision Zero approach and the Safe System. 30 km/h speed limit is a great way to reduce congestion by encouraging walking and cycling. Cars emit fewer damaging pollutants at a maximum speed of 30km/h than at a 50km/h maximum in cities, because traffic flows more smoothly and there are fewer queues and stop-starts. People want to live in places with lower speed limits because people want to live
