Detailed description (English): This Liberty Seguros initiative emerged in May 2016. Its main objective is to promote the use of bicycles as the main mode of transport among all employees in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao (where the company has its offices in Spain).
During the first year of the program, a total of 45.077 km were covered by bike, saving approximately 8 tons of CO2 emissions.
62 employees (of a total of 1.1141 that work in the three cities mentioned above) are regular bike users. Bilbao has multiplied by eight its number of cyclists (from 0.4% to 3.5%), while Madrid has tripled it (from 1.7% to 4.7%) and Barcelona almost doubled it (from 3.7% to 6.8%).
This program provides an economic incentive of € 0.37 per kilometer to the employee who uses the bike (from his house to the office).
In addition, within this program, training courses are also organized to inform and help employees to eliminate barriers and myths regarding mobility on bike. It´s also helpful to inform about good mobility practices as well as to learn how to repair bicycles.
