Detailed description (English): Ciclogreen is an online reward platform for sustainable mobility that allows companies, city councils and universities to reward their employees and citizens in general with gifts and discounts for the kilometres they travel cycling, walking, skating, sharing a car or using public transport during their day to day life. Users register their movements using the Ciclogreen tracking app and the platform transforms their sustainable kilometres into points that users can redeem for discounts in local shops, and also encourages users to join 'Mobility Challenges' to win attractive gifts (e.g. a free urban bike).
Target group(s): Employees that usually drive to work and need some extra motivation to shift to active commuting.
Objectives: This MOBILITYACTION consists in the creation and implementation of a structured program of incentives to sustainable mobility practices through the online platform Ciclogreen to promote and quantify them as a source of reduction of CO2 emissions, paying special attention to travel to work with the aim of encouraging the transition toward alternative modes of transport, the acquisition of sustainable and healthy habits and the promotion of local trade through a catalogue of incentives.
Specific Objectives
- Increase levels of sustainable mobility practices to change the current mobility system, based mostly in the private vehicle (car).
- Promote local trade offering a new marketing channel to the shops and businesses of the cities inside the programme, thanks to its association to the platform, in which they will be able to offer discounts and gifts to the citizens for their kilometres done cycling and walking.
Expected Outcomes: By promoting cycling and walking as means of transport we are directly reducing CO2 emissions. Our 40000 users from 256 cities have already cycled and walked 8000000 km, saving 2000 tons of CO2 emissions. We work to have 500k users in 2020 to save 1M tones of CO2 / year.
This project includes innovative communication campaigns that promote the involvement of citizens through 'individual actions' to fight climate change and improve the quality of life in their city. In addition, their actions are rewarded and quantified, increasing the perception of belonging to a healthy and positive community in the city. Ciclogreen has a significant presence in social networks (+9000 followers on Facebook, +4000 on Twitter) and media (New York Times, The Economist, TVE, Cuatro, El Mundo, among others), ensuring a high mass media impact.
Partner: Ciclogreen is currently in FrontierCities2 accelerator and European Data Incubator and has been awarded with the 'Climate Champion Award 2015' (Entrepreneurs for the Climate, GreenEcoNet), recognizing its contribution in climate change mitigation through promotion of sustainable mobility. This award included the presentation of the initiative at the Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21). In addition, Ciclogreen was a guest speaker at the 'GreenEcoNet Final Conference' (Brussels, 2016, European project ‘GreenEcoNet’), in representation of Spanish Green Economy Companies and has been chosen as one of the most promising social impact startups in Spain by Google in 2018 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94uwGQcESn0).
Ciclogreen is supported by the Spanish Office of Climate Change. Thanks to this collaboration and after signing an agreement in September 2016, Ciclogreen will promote cycling and walking to work among more than 3000 employees from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment in Madrid, Spain.
