Around 1900, cycling began to establish itself as a new means of transportation and a leisure activity. Wealthy citizens, in particular, discovered the bicycle as a modern and sporty hobby.
On pleasant Sundays, they took trips into the countryside, enjoying the fresh air and the new freedom on two wheels. Cycling was not only an expression of a progressive lifestyle, but also a symbol of mobility and independence—especially for women, who were able to travel more independently for the first time.
Detailed description (original language): Um 1900 begann das Radfahren sich als neues Fortbewegungsmittel und Freizeitvergnügen zu etablieren. Vor allem wohlhabende Bürgerinnen und Bürger entdeckten das Fahrrad als modernes und sportliches Hobby. An schönen Sonntagen unternahmen sie Ausflüge ins Grüne, genossen die frische Luft und die neue Freiheit auf zwei Rädern. Radfahren war nicht nur Ausdruck eines fortschrittlichen Lebensstils, sondern auch Symbol für Mobilität und Unabhängigkeit – insbesondere für Frauen, die damit erstmals selbstbestimmter unterwegs sein konnten.
