Detailed description (English): “Dooring” accidents, where cyclists are struck by, or crash into a suddenly swung open car door, are one of the most easily preventable types of road accidents. Just one look over the shoulder of the person exiting a car to check whether the area next to the car is free,, before opening the door is enough to avoid a crash. This is exactly the aim of the “headrest cover” campaign of the German Taxi Association (Bundesverband Taxi und Mietwagen, BVTM). These covers, applied to the headrests of taxi drivers, remind their passengers to always look for incoming traffic before opening the car doors to exit the vehicle. With these covers, which have now been distributed in several cities, the German taxi sector is contributing to “Vision Zero”, the aim of reducing the number of people killed or harmed in traffic.
Target group(s): Taxi drivers and passengers
