Detailed description (English): “Walk for your city!” – European Steps Challenge
This year, for the first time, European Mobility Week features the European Steps Challenge – a unique initiative inviting citizens across Europe to walk more for their well-being and for their cities. Organized by EIT Urban Mobility in collaboration with Walk15, the challenge encourages cities to mobilize residents, organizations, and communities to join a month-long step-counting competition using the free Walk15 mobile app.
From 16 August to 22 September 2025, participants will walk and contribute their steps to their city’s total. The most active cities will be recognized at the end of European Mobility Week. Registration is already open, and participation is simple – just download the Walk15 app, join the European Mobility Week Steps Challenge, and select your city.
To support city engagement, ready-made communication materials, visuals, and QR codes are provided. The initiative promotes sustainable mobility, community spirit, and healthier lifestyles. Everyone is welcome to walk for their city – making steps matter for a more active and environmentally friendly Europe.

Detailed description (original language): Empower your city through steps – join the European Steps Challenge
European cities are facing growing challenges related to urban health, mobility, and sustainability. The European Steps Challenge, part of European Mobility Week 2025, offers a simple yet powerful tool for cities to inspire healthier, more active, and more connected communities.
Organized by EIT Urban Mobility together with Walk15, the initiative invites cities to engage residents in a month-long walking challenge (16 August – 22 September), using the Walk15 app. By joining, municipalities promote active mobility in a fun, measurable way that reaches individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
Through collective step-counting, each city competes to become one of Europe’s most active. It’s not just about steps – it’s about encouraging behavioral change, increasing physical activity, reducing car dependency, and building civic pride. With support materials provided (visuals, templates, QR codes), cities can easily launch local campaigns and mobilize communities.
