MAYER’S little BICYCLE-THEATRE is an entertaining, interactive storytelling-theatre, created out of disused cardboard bicycle boxes, built on an antique baker’s bike. And it is mobile.
The story: “The BICYCLING BARON! The Weird and Wonderful Story of a Fabulously Useful and Utterly Amazing Invention!“
It is the true story about the invention of the best means of transport the world has ever seen: THE BICYCLE!
A story about the beginning of modern individual mobility and the questions of HOW and WHY the inventor KARL DRAIS came to invent the first bicycle in 1817. We learn how a climate crisis more then 200 years ago lead to the creation of the very first bike. We discuss how the bicycle was the very first “automobile“ and why cycling is not just environmentally friendly but also makes you feel free!
My little spectacle on wheels’ story is based on my illustrated picture book „Die Laufmaschine“, (awarded 1st prize by the Ministry of Transport of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany).
My theatre and I, we love visiting schools, mobility events, summer events, ParkingDays and more.
Costumed performances.
Duration :
(1) short repeat cycles (20 minutes), one show every half hour or hour
(2) several full lenght shows (40 minutes)
For evening events with decorative lighting.
All in all, a small Gesamtkunstwerk. Informative. Creative. Entertaining.
For absolutely EVERYONE - from 5 years up.

Detailed description (original language): Erzählkunst - Fahrradgeschichte - Humor!
MAYERS kleines FAHRRAD-THEATER ist ein lustiges, interaktives Erzähltheater aus recycelten Fahrrad-Kartons, mobil, auf einem antiken Bäckerfahrrad.
Als „Theater-Direktor“erzähle ich damit meine (fast) unglaubliche und doch (ganz und gar) wahre Geschichte:
„DIE LAUFMASCHINE - Vom Herrn Baron von Drais und seiner erstaunlich nützlichen, fabelhaften Erfindung!“
Hier geht es um die Erfindung des besten Verkehrsmittels der Welt, DAS FAHRRAD ... und um den Beginn der modernen Individualmobilität.
Es geht um die Frage, WARUM und WIE der Erfinder KARL DRAIS 1817 das Zweirad erfunden hatte. Wir erfahren, was eine Klimakrise vor über 200 Jahren damit zu tun hat. Wir diskutieren, warum das Fahrrad das allererste „Automobil“ war und es trotzdem nie einen Auspuff brauchte! Und warum Fahrradfahren so frei macht und so gut für die Umwelt ist!
Grundlage bildet mein prämiertes, selbst illustriertes Bilderbuch „Die Laufmaschine“ (u.a. vom Verkehrsministerium Baden-Württemberg mit einem 1. Preis ausgezeichnet).
Mit meinem Theater bin ich auf Mobilitäts- und Umweltfesten, RadKULTUR-Tagen, Stadtradeln-Events, Sommerfestivals, Schulen, ParkingDays, u.v.m.
Auftritte in Kostüm.
Dauer der Auftritte, ganz nach Wunsch :
(1) kurze Zyklen, halbstündlich oder stündlich (je ca. 20min)
(2) mehrmals volle Länge (ca. 40 min)
Ein kleines Gesamtkunstwerk. Lehrreich. Unterhaltsam. Für Groß & Klein, für ALLE ab 5 Jahren. Für Radler sowieso!

Objectives: To inform, inspire, entertain and engage with school children, all cyclists and the general public on the themes of mobility and sustainability, via my Bicycle-Theater and my story about the invention of the bicycle. With my contribution I offer something new to school reading days, to mobility festivals and similar events.
