Detailed description (English): The 2nd Outta Climate Festival, organized by CIVINET Greece-Cyprus and co-funded by the Green Fund, took place in February in Vari, featuring a unique blend of art, road safety, and climate action. Central to the festival were two major activities: a vibrant "asphalt art" intervention and a music-dance performance for children.
On February 16th and March 28th, the “asphalt art” event unfolded outside the 1st Primary School of Vari, where renowned street artist Soteur collaborated with upper-grade students to create a 100-square-meter mural aimed at enhancing road safety. The mural's strategic placement on a busy road leading to a critical pedestrian crossing was designed to catch drivers' attention, urging them to reduce speed and improve safety for schoolchildren. This artistic initiative mirrored the success of the first Outta Climate Festival in Agios Dimitrios, where art was utilized to promote urban safety and environmental awareness.
In Parallel, the Jazz Solidarity Network hosted an engaging music and dance performance for younger children at the Municipal Theatre. Titled "Jazz around the kids – Making music with a live orchestra," the interactive show introduced jazz rhythms through hands-on percussion activities. A highlight was the body music segment, where children learned to produce sounds using their bodies, enhancing musical creativity and physical involvement. Esteemed musicians like Chara Asimina, Natasha Martin, Andreas Papagiannakopoulos, Panagiotis Charalampopoulos, and Serafim Tourikas led this educational experience.
Detailed description (original language): Tο Outta Climate Festival έκανε τη δεύτερη του στάση στη γειτονιά της Βάρης στις 16 Φεβρουαρίου και στις 28 Μαρτίου 2024, συνεχίζοντας τη δυναμική του πορεία μετά την επιτυχημένη εκδήλωση στον Άγιο Δημήτριο. Αυτή τη φορά, το φεστιβάλ πραγματοποιήθηκε στο 1ο Δημοτικό Σχολείο Βάρης, φέρνοντας στο προσκήνιο την κλιματική κρίση, την οδική ασφάλεια, τη νεολαία και τον πολιτισμό.
Η διοργάνωση του φεστιβάλ υλοποιήθηκε από την ομάδα του CIVINET Greece-Cyprus σε συνεργασία με το Jazz Solidarity Network, με τη συγχρηματοδότηση του Πράσινου Ταμείου και του Δήμου Βάρης Βούλας Βουλιαγμένης.
Στον δρόμο έξω από το 1ο Δημοτικό Σχολείο Βάρης, ο διεθνούς φήμης εικαστικός Soteur συνεργάστηκε με τους μαθητές για να δημιουργήσει τη μεγαλύτερη μέχρι στιγμής καλλιτεχνική σύνθεση σε άσφαλτο στην Ελλάδα. Η εικαστική αυτή παρέμβαση φιλοδοξεί να προσελκύσει την προσοχή των οδηγών, να τους κάνει να κόψουν ταχύτητα και να διασφαλίσει έτσι την ασφαλέστερη διέλευση των παιδιών.
Αυτή η καλλιτεχνική παρέμβαση αποτελεί μέρος μιας μεγαλύτερης πρωτοβουλίας που φέρνει το CIVINET Greece-Cyprus από την Αμερική στην Ελλάδα, εμπνευσμένο από το ίδρυμα Bloomberg Philanthropies. Πρόκειται για μια μεθοδολογία που έχει εφαρμοστεί επιτυχώς σε πολλές πόλεις παγκοσμίως, με στόχο τη βελτίωση της οδικής ασφάλειας και την ενίσχυση της βιώσιμης κινητικότητας.
Κατά την πρώτη ημέρα του φεστιβάλ, οι μαθητές απόλαυσαν την εκπαιδευτική παράσταση «Jazz around the kids – I make music with a live orchestra» από καταξιωμένους καλλιτέχνες του Jazz Solidarity Network.

Asphalt art: The purpose of this form of art is apart from enriching the street and the neighborhood with beautiful murals to attract the attention of drivers, make them slow down and thus ensure safer pedestrian crossing, including many children. Additionally it aims to raise awareness among local citizens, drivers and passengers regarding Road Safety. This summaries pretty much the purpose of asphalt art, a method brought by CIVINET Greece-Cyprus from the American continent to Greece, based on the experience and the technical guidelines of Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Music and Dance Scene: Bring artists to perform and advocate for the message of the festival empowering the sense of solidarity and connection between art, climate action stakeholders and citizens.
Replication: Allying with many forms of art, the Outta Climate Festival team sent its own message on Climate Crisis and Road Safety, with a promise to move soon to other cities, mountains and islands of Europe that share the same values.
