Detailed description (English): The District of Ebersberg is preparing an innovative pilot project to promote cycling: A 2.5-kilometre bicycle street is planned along State Road 2351 between Glonn and Moosach. Starting in 2026, this road section will be downgraded to a district road – making it the first interurban bicycle street on a district road in Bavaria. A groundbreaking step for sustainable rural mobility.
The goal of the project is to provide cyclists with safe and equal access to road infrastructure outside urban areas. The route connects two progressive municipalities committed to sustainable transport and serves commuters, schoolchildren, and recreational cyclists alike. The pilot is intended to generate valuable insights into traffic behaviour, safety, and public acceptance under real-world conditions.
With clearly defined traffic rules, priority for cyclists, and reduced motor vehicle speeds, the bicycle street aims to deliver a tangible benefit for environmentally friendly mobility. The District of Ebersberg is taking a bold step toward climate-conscious infrastructure planning – fully aligned with the goals of the European Mobility Week.
