Detailed description (English): The day and night bus services in most cities are entirely different. The night network is less understandable and intuitive, with much less coverage and geographical capillarity. To solve these problems at a time when greater use of public transport is required as an alternative to private vehicles and to solve the energy crisis, as well as expand mobility options for all people and improve the safety of their journeys, EMT València has implemented a new night public transport network with 23 routes in València, the third-largest city in Spain.
Detailed description (original language): EMT València has launched a new night network in Valencia that increases the night service (before València had 11 night lines) with 23 day lines (4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 16, 19, 24, 25, 26, 27 , 28, 60, 62, 67, 70, 72, 73, 81, 93, 99 and C3) that extend their service throughout the night. With this expansion of the offer, the municipal company improves the frequencies in the nighttime slot and also increases coverage in neighborhoods and towns of Valencia and the metropolitan area, offering nighttime public transport service to areas that were previously unavailable.
This is a new commitment to public transport and a less polluting collective mobility. In this way, a new option of safe and quality mobility is promoted at night, reaching neighborhoods and towns that until now did not have public transport at night. A large information campaign has been carried out in different neighbourhoods of the city to report new developments in the service. In addition, EMT organized a big event at the Town Hall Square to celebrate the urban public transport with free concerts and free bus service to publicize the new night routes and facilitate trips to the event. More than 5,000 people participated in this event.
The implementation of the new network has been a success. The new network duplicated the night demand in the first month of service and currently has better results than the night network in 2019 (before the covid 19 pandemic).
Target group(s): The new night service had a great impact on the entire city of Valencia (800,000 residents) and the metropolitan area that provides EMT València services, since it is aimed at all people: young people, adults or seniors, people with reduced mobility, etc. With this expansion of the night service, EMT València offers new quality alternatives to the private vehicle during the night, aimed especially at a younger segment of the population and those people who need to travel during the night for labor reasons or to be able to travel safely around the city.
This project also adopts the gender perspective (66.5% of the users are women) and expands the service of stops on demand ("purple bus stops"). This service offers the possibility to women traveling alone, accompanied by another woman or a dependent person to request a stop on demand on the night lines, so the bus can leave them it at a point closer to its destination. The objective is to reduce the feeling of fear of women passengers at night.
