Detailed description (English): For European Mobility week we are keen to involve, local businesses and students alike. European mobility week is around the same time as 7000 new students arrive in St Andrews. We will be offering free road cycle safety training to those students and locals. At these training sessions we will also be teaching people the social, economic, environmental and personal benefits of choosing more sustainable modes of transport. We will provide free high visibility vests.
We will be providing businesses, visitors and students with booklets detailing the positive effects that choosing more sustainable modes of transport have on local communities. Within these booklets will also be details of the local car share site along with information about the benefits of reducing car use the within town.
We will launch the Hamish Foundation Royal sites walking app. Information on how access to the app will be in the afore mentioned booklets that will be given to the public and will create a lasting legacy for the town in terms of alternative ways for visitors to make their way around St Andrews.
There will be an area of Market Street (photo attached) closed off to host the local Bike shop, Sustrans Scotland, BID St Andrews, Podofit and the Hamish Foundation stalls. In addition, Peachy Keen, a company that delivers bicycle powered attractions are invited to host a Bicycle powered cinema screen with a presentation about European Mobility Week and its aims. Members of the public are invited to power the screen.
