Detailed description (English): Europe Direct Madeira will develop a set of activities during European Mobility Week, with the implementation of the following initiatives, which will take place between the 16th and 22nd of September:
- "Contrary myths": Using the bicycle as a sustainable mode of transport, we will follow a route that will connect the lowest point of the capital - Funchal (0 meters) to the highest point of the island, Pico do Areeiro, the 1818 meters altitude. The aim is to counter the myth that the rugged terrain of the island of Madeira is an insurmountable barrier to the use of bicycles.
- "Around the eco-sites": We teamed up with Ecos Machico and Ludens, for a 23.5 km/730D+ bike route between Machico (center) and Caniçal (Ponta de São Lourenço), passing through several areas of natural and historical/cultural importance. The aim is to combine the recreational aspect of cycling with environmental and cultural sustainability.
- "Change of behavior": The human resources of the Insular Geography Association will, during this week, join by carpooling and electric bicycles, as alternative mobility to the individual use of a private car, thus raising awareness of reductions in gas emissions pollutants and to reduce road congestion.
Target group(s): Civil society.
Objectives: -Alert for the adoption of sustainable behaviors and, in particular, the protection of air quality and the mitigation of global warming;
