Detailed description (English): Within this project there are planned 6 activities (promotional cyclists' tours and conferences) in 3 countries, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. They relate to the possibility of using abandoned railway lines for cyclists and pedestrians. Đ¢hese are the final activities carried out by the Yugo cycling campaign within the project "Promoting the Western Balkans Greenways Network", financed by the EU and the WBF (Western Balkan Fund). Two events are planned for Herceg Novi in Montenegro, a Bike Fest along the existing and planned greenway and a conference in an reconstructed old railway station. Another two events will be in Mostar, B&H where we plan a promotional bicycle tour along the abandoned railway line from the location of the old railway station, through the city. The third Bike Fest is planned in Priboj (Serbia), along the partly built up greenway, leading towards a border between Serbia and B&H. We will promote the first border crossing for cyclists and pedestrians only. After that there will be a conference with participants from 3 countries and representatives from the EU, WBF and EGWA (European Greenways Association). There will be printed booklets, posters, T-shirts and flyers on each event. We expect about 50 -100 cyclists in each of the cities. The abandoned railway tracks will be reconstructed and used for cycling and walking and abandoned old railway stations will be reconstructed for new purposes (tourism, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc.). There are several thousand abandoned railways and several dozen old railway stations.
Target group(s): Cyclists, pedestrians, school boys and girls, tourists, local NGO, local entrepreneurs, politicians and media.
Objectives: Objective is to raise awareness about possibilities for the new infrastructure which can encourage local people as well as the tourists for better connectivity between countries in the Western Balkan region. Greenways network will be expanded to other WB countries in the future, thus making stronger links and possibilities for exchanging local habits, culture and information. for better understanding between countries.
