Detailed description (English): The MARBEL project develops an innovative and competitive lightweight battery with the objective to accelerate the mass market take-up of electric and hybrid vehicles.
MARBEL designs, develops and demonstrates a new compact, modular, weight-optimised and high-performance battery pack with longer life, greater energy efficiency in charging and energy use based on a robust and flexible battery management system (BMS) along with ultra-fast battery charging and cooling. Modularity will make possible to streamline repair, servicing and recycling processes, while preserving the value of new batteries and reducing hazards for operators and environmental impact.
Target group(s): - EV drivers
- Industry associations
-Batteries materials / cells producers
- Professionals in the OEM / Automotive industry
Objectives: - Develop an innovative and competitive lightweight battery with increased energy density and shorter recharging times with the objective to accelerate the mass market take-up of electric vehicles.
- Provide electric vehicles users batteries with a lifespan on 300,000 km, almost doubling the lifespan of current batteries in the market.
- Decrease users’ range anxiety by avoiding unforeseen battery failures and better prediction of battery performance.
- Reinforce the European position in the global battery market and contribute to environmental and societal targets.
- The uptake of electric vehicles with lithium-ion batteries will produce millions of batteries no longer maintaining the power for electric vehicles but maintaining the 80% of its capacity. MARBEL project will establish a protocol for the reuse of the battery and 2nd life.
