Detailed description (English): Discover the marble basins of Aurisina, stroll along the quarries and come to visit the laboratories of the Cortese Brothers.
If you are impressionable, you will be amazed! The power of the limestone bastions that can be observed on the hollow fronts near Aurisina can only leave you breathless, at least as much as the abundance of fossils present in these thick sediments, exploited yesterday as today for public works, private construction and artifacts, which use their mechanical characteristics and the possibility of finishing for ornamental purposes. The same effect arouses the high limestone walls facing the sea of the Triestina coast visible a few steps from the quarries from the Weiss lookout.
The white of the limestone, the blue of the sea and the shades from green to orange of the vegetation are combined in a painting worthy of a great artist: Mother Nature. From the natural walls to those excavated over the centuries by man, we will try to reconstruct the geological history of this "precious" stone that contains millions and millions of years and stories: from the fossils of the Cretaceous to the quarrymen of Ancient Rome up to the marble workers of our days. We will also visit the stone workshops of fratelli Cortese snc, to discover their history and stone processing techniques. The route will start from the square of the Town Hall of Aurisina, and then continue towards the marble basins already opened in Roman times. We will skirt an old disused quarry, we will parade - always safely - along the impressive baratri of the marble quarries currently active
Detailed description (original language): Cosa farai
