Car-Free Day: The City Belongs to People

On the final and most symbolic day of the European Mobility Week, Amasya’s city center will be transformed into a vibrant pedestrian zone. Selected main routes will be closed to motor vehicles, allowing citizens to reclaim the streets as spaces of life, culture, and connection.

Throughout the day, the city will turn into an open-air festival of sustainable living:

Walking Routes & Urban Freedom: Families, children, students, and elderly citizens will enjoy safe, spacious walking routes where the city’s architectural heritage and natural beauty can be experienced without the dominance of traffic.

Creative Open-Air Workshops: Artists and local NGOs will host interactive workshops – from street painting and upcycling activities to collective mural design – encouraging citizens to imagine greener urban futures.

Street Performances & Local Culture: Street musicians, dancers, and performers will animate the car-free streets, filling them with color, rhythm, and joy.

Living Laboratory for Pedestrian-Friendly Cities: Together with architecture and urban planning students, a “walking studio” will reimagine public spaces. Citizens will be invited to co-design how squares, sidewalks, and parks could look if people, not cars, were at the center of city life.

Highlight:
“For one day, we prove it is possible. For every day, we must make it real: a city without cars, a city for people.”
